Alternatives to Megavideo – how to bypass Megaupload’s shutdown with a VPN service?

As you all know, Megaupload, the famous internet’s file-sharing website, has been shut down by officials in the US.

Investigators said this arrest had nothing to do with the latest events about SOPA and PIPA.

On Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) called on the Protect IP Act to be shelved for the foreseeable future. Senate Majority leader Harry Reid still plans to bring the legislation to the floor on Tuesday, but the defection of Republicans has raised doubts on whether he will have enough votes to overcome a threatened filibuster.

Megaupload’s take down now produces its first chain reaction: Filesonic online storage service voluntarily disabled file sharing. According to Reuters, Filesonic remains unclear about this move.

Moreover, the Anonymous hackers’ group also answered by attacking the FBI and US Department of Justice websites.

As we already announced in a previous article about SOPA protest, this law could shut down many websites, and change the internet as we know it. These both moves from US government and stakeholders from the internet world shows what big changes are happening.

With the shutdown of Megaupload (file sharing), Megapix (Image upload), Megalive (live video-streaming), Megabox (music/audio-hosting) and also  Megavideo (video streaming), what are your best alternatives to watch US TV shows, series and movies?

See below our selection of best alternatives to the famous streaming  video website Megavideo.

Alternatives to Megavideo

1. VPN service

Using a VPN service allows you to access US watching series services such as Hulu or Netflix.

A VPN creates a secure connection between your computer and the server of the provider. It switches your IP address to a new IP according to the location that you choose. A VPN service also allows you to unblock the websites that are restricted according to your country/IP address.

See our comparison engine of VPN providers with US server locations.

Bottom line

All the events about SOPA are changing many things on the internet. Both VPN and Usenet are useful tools that are increasingly used in order to watch media contents.

The future is also unclear for Megaupload. Thankfully there are still plenty of alternatives to move large files from one computer to another.

I was a premium megaupload subscriber, I’ve been hunting for a legit streaming alternative for awhile now, I have come across swarm.tv for half the price of megaupload and a promising future with lots of videos being added daily.
